In 2020, as the global pandemic effectively shut down live music, the Melos Sinfonia commissioned a new opera-film - in collaboration with Apple Music - comprising eight new songs from eight of today’s leading composers. Shot on iPhone by Billy Boyd Cape and featuring a cast of major opera singers and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by Oliver Zeffman, the project aimed to create an opera specifically designed for the screen, embracing digital as a medium in its own right, rather than simply repurposing live performance.
